THE MOMENT BETWEEN

Some things don't change all at once. They move underneath first.

A novel of weather, memory, faith, and what changes us before it can be named.

THE STORY

Everything changes before it can be named.

Set beneath the wide, unfixed skies of Montana's Flathead Lake, THE MOMENT BETWEEN follows Elias — a man who spent years making other people's images persuasive before he understood what it had cost him to stop staying with anything real. He comes home to photograph weather: storms breaking over open country, light arriving beneath cloud, the narrow edge where one thing hasn't ended and another has already begun. But learning to be present to a storm means learning to be present to everything else he'd let pass overhead — a father growing quieter, a daughter grown distant, a love he never fully understood, a mother's unfinished paintings found behind old coats. This is a meditative work of Western literary fiction in the tradition of Norman Maclean, Kent Haruf, and Wallace Stegner — about attention as both a gift and an evasion, and about what it takes to stop watching a life happen and start standing inside it.

A Literary World

Recognition. Attention. Place. Becoming.

These are the questions that move through THE MOMENT BETWEEN, and they move through Moorelight Studios as a whole. The same weather that shapes Elias's photographs — storm light over Flathead Lake, the brief threshold between what's ending and what's arriving — is the weather Convergence Fine Art has been capturing in the physical world. The novel and the photography aren't a pairing of convenience. They come from the same eye.

FINE ART

The landscape behind the story.

Every landscape in this novel is a real one. The storms, the lake, the light breaking beneath cloud shelves — these are the same places, and often the same moments, that appear in Convergence Fine Art's collections. Reading the novel and standing in front of the photographs are two ways into the same weather.
